WUNC is hiring a Supervising Editor for the Digital News team. The Supervising Editor will oversee news content on WUNC’s digital platforms, edit and schedule news content, and manage WUNC’s team of digital news producers. They will also report news content for WUNC’s digital properties as needed.

The Supervising Editor for Digital News is part of the news leadership team and works with the News Director in setting the agenda for WUNC’s news service to listeners and readers. They will also be called in to assist in managing breaking news coverage. The position includes working closely with the station's news reporters and producers as well as freelancers.

WUNC is headquartered in North Carolina’s Triangle area (Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill), which is consistently rated among the top areas to live in the country. The ocean and mountains are each just a few hours away. The position is based at the station’s downtown Durham office.

As news events do not conform to a regular 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule, there will be times when the Editor will be called on for work during weekends and after hours.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

The Supervising Editor for Digital News will be an experienced journalist and a proven news leader with strong management, production, editorial, and communication skills.

Leading candidates will have:

A bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism, communication, public policy, or related field. Master’s degree or comparable combination of education and experience preferred.
At least two years of management and supervisory experience preferred.
At least five years of experience as a journalist and/or radio producer, with increasing responsibility in each successive position.
Experience at a listener-supported public radio station or network preferred.
Experience with public radio or related not-for-profit fundraising preferred.
Demonstrated ability to plan and meet deadlines working with materials from a variety of sources and collaborators.
Demonstrated ability to manage colleagues effectively and collaboratively.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
Creativity and initiative.
A familiarity with North Carolina’s issues preferred.
