Part-Time Sports Writer & Broadcast Liaison

We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated part-time sports writer to cover high school sports across multiple schools in rural Nevada. This exciting opportunity will allow you to capture the spirit of local athletics, connect with student-athletes and contribute to the vibrant sports community.

Responsibilities:

Comprehensive Sports Coverage:

Attend (in person or remotely) and report on a variety of high school sporting events, including football, basketball, volleyball, baseball and more.

Write engaging game recaps, feature stories, and athlete profiles for publication in the Mesa Valleys Progress, Lincoln County Record, Ely Times and Eureka Sentinel.

Coordinate with local photographers to capture high-quality photos and/or videos to accompany your written content.

Broadcast Liaison:

Act as a liaison between the high schools and the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) broadcasting partner.

Coordinate and facilitate arrangements for live broadcasts of selected games, ensuring smooth communication and logistical support.

Work with school athletic departments to make sure that all necessary information is provided to the broadcasting partner.

Community Engagement:

Build strong relationships with coaches, athletes, school administrators and community members.

Deadlines:

Meet tight deadlines, and work well under pressure.

Qualifications:

Proven writing and reporting skills, preferably with experience covering sports.

Strong knowledge of high school sports and the Nevada athletic landscape.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Proficiency in photography and/or videography is a plus.

Reliable transportation and a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Experience with coordinating events, or broadcasting is a plus.

Compensation:

Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience.

Mileage reimbursement.
