Digital Editor

New Posted 16 October 2023 | UK | New Internationalist

New Internationalist is a magazine committed to social and environmental justice and reporting the under-reported, particularly in the Global South.

We produce in-depth journalism which highlights the world’s unjust power relationships; campaigns for the radical changes necessary to meet the basic needs of all; and brings to life ideas and action in the fight for a more equal and democratic world.

We are recruiting a digital editor to develop our website and digital strategy. Working as part of the editorial and marketing teams, the digital editor will build our digital presence and drive subscriptions to the magazine via NI’s website and digital channels.

We are looking for someone full of ideas for digital strategy and day-to-day engagement, who is also committed to tackling oppression and injustice. The person needs to be able to work co-operatively and collaboratively as part of a small team, as well as work independently in this remote role.

As a co-operative with a flat structure and permanent employees get the same rate of pay – regardless of their position. They are also expected to work with the rest of the co-op to steer the business overall.

We’re an anti-racist, feminist and trans-inclusive organisation. We strongly encourage applications from marginalised or oppressed groups who are currently under-represented in journalism.

Location: Remote working, with willingness to travel to the Oxford office at least once a year. Every two months is encouraged for people living in the UK. Transport costs will be covered. We are open to exploring options for appointing candidates outside the UK, however we will not be able to assist with work visas.

Salary: £30,930.44 pro rata.

Hours: 0.80 Full time equivalent (4 days a week). These hours can be spread across 4 or 5 days. Permanent contract.

Start date: As soon as possible, taking into account notice periods and other commitments.

Deadline for applications: Sunday 29 October, 11.59pm UK time.

First interviews: 5 or 6 December via Zoom.

Possible second interview: 12 or 13 December, in Oxford or London (in-person for people based in the UK, online for people based outside). Transport costs will be covered.
