The New York Jewish Week is looking for a full-time reporter to cover Jewish life and community in New York City. Our ideal candidate is a curious, energetic newshound with deep curiosity about the five boroughs and the diverse Jewish communities that make up the rich tapestry of the city with the largest population of Jews in the entire world.
This is an exciting opportunity for an enterprising reporter who thrives on getting out and about, enjoys meeting new people and spots stories in the course of daily life. You’ll cover religion, education, politics, and innovations and trends in local Jewish experience, and the people that have long made New York City a capital of Jewish life.
The ideal candidate has a track record of compelling journalism, a passion for building sources and an ability to channel the interests of local audiences. An understanding of Jewish communities and/or New York City is a plus, but we’re also open to candidates with a proven record of breaking news and riveting readers on previously unfamiliar beats.
This role requires attention to detail, an orientation toward deadlines, ability to manage multiple assignments and ideas simultaneously, and comfort working as part of a team. This full-time union position will report to the editors of the New York Jewish Week, a publication dedicated to covering the full breadth of Jewish life across the city.
The New York Jewish Week brand was recently acquired by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA) and its parent company, 70 Faces Media. The JTA and New York Jewish Week teams work together and meet regularly to brainstorm stories, share tips and maximize the impact of our work.
This is a full-time hybrid position, with an expectation that some work will be conducted from our offices near Bryant Park. Applicants must be able to report from New York City daily. The salary is $50,000-$60,000 with full benefits.
