Broadcast Journalist

New Posted 9 January 2024 | London, England, United Kingdom | News Broadcasting

We are News Broadcasting: With a stellar line up of diverse, forward-looking radio stations and a TV network, News Broadcasting is always looking to push boundaries and reach the highest heights of journalistic standards. We are looking for a broadcast journalist who will sound amazing on Virgin Radio UK - home to Chris Evans and Graham Norton - and on talkSPORT, the world’s biggest sports radio station. But, though aimed at those outlets, you’d also be interested in the sophisticated, political journalism of Times Radio and the “views and news” channel that is Talk TV.

The Team: News UK Broadcasting’s news team delivers world class news and sport bulletins across our national radio stations and current affairs content for podcasts, with opportunities to also contribute to TV. The team is agile in reacting to major news events and dynamic in how it covers them, collaborating across all our outlets with a great collective spirit - sharing stories and copy, audio and video.

Your Role: You will be a primary on-air newsreader for Virgin Radio UK and talkSPORT. You will write your own scripts, harvest audio and video and collaborate on emerging stories as the daily agenda plays out. In addition, there will be opportunities to report on location, work on your original story ideas and develop TV skills. There may well be occasions where you are also asked to adapt and read news on Times Radio. Reporting to the Head of News, your experience, energy, ideas and contacts will enhance the country’s most exciting airwaves.

Note: Though knowledge of sport is useful this role relates to news bulletins not sport bulletins.

Day to day you will:

Present Virgin and talkSPORT’s all-important news bulletins
Report on breaking stories in studio and on location during live programming
Break original stories relevant and of interest to the talkSPORT/Virgin audience
Work with the rest of the News UK Broadcasting team to produce the highest quality news scripts and audio/video across all our stations
Liaise with production teams to maximise the on-air content

What we’re looking for from you:

Exceptional news judgement
A demonstrable demo of news reading experience
Significant experience of a fast-paced broadcast newsroom
Comfortable working with high-profile programme presenters
Razor-sharp clarity of writing, with an ability to adapt your style for each station
An in-depth knowledge of news and current affairs
Calmness and speed under pressure
An understanding of News UK’s diverse media portfolio
