The Audience Growth Editor is a senior operational role sitting in the Editorial Innovation Centre. Reporting directly to the Head of Audience Growth, you will be responsible for executing the strategy to drive audience growth across all mastheads and networks at News. The role can be based in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Adelaide.
Its core purpose is to lead the delivery of best practice in audience development and reach to optimise our storytelling.
You will be part of the Audience Growth team in the EIC working across all newsrooms and networks with specialists in Audience, Search, Newsletters and Content Growth.
You will be responsible for ensuring the daily and strategic priorities of the audience team align with best opportunities and the output is best practice in story enhancements and optimisation.
Role responsibilities:
Play a leadership and hands-on role in sharpening our digital platforms at peak audience times to produce the best possible reader experience
Draw in large new audiences, expanding our reach, while also deepening our connection to our most loyal readers and viewers
Lead an Audience team in content-led growth and audience reach, engagement and development to inform commissioning and distribution, based on insights and data
Identify new opportunities with published journalism, optimisation of stories, and the planning, publishing and distribution of unique journalism for existing and new audiences for all News’ brands
Deliver digital revenue and audience reach growth by driving new subscribers, subscriber engagement and retention
Drive and measure journalism growth and retention programs via the Rapid Growth Program 2.0 and other key national strategies agreed by the Audience Growth team and EIC
Test & learn audience-led journalism ideas for programs and strategies that drive audience growth including, but not limited to, in niche audience areas, retention journalism over acquisition journalism
Work with EIC audience team and masthead Audience Growth Editors to optimise masthead journalism for maximum success off platform (search and social), with a focus on article page engagement over homepage placement, driving more from the core (fast follow to masthead digital)
Work with weekend teams to optimise weekend content, provide data on performance and resurface weekend content for a weekend and weekday audience
Establish test & learn with live digital editing
Work with social and SEO teams to come up with content ideas to find new off platform audiences
Provide data on what worked and where the opportunities are to help commission stories with the Audience Growth Editor at relevant newsrooms
Work with the EIC audience team each morning on priorities and opportunities for the newsroom
Establish feedback loop into newsrooms on what is working nationally (and what isn’t)
Who you are
Proven leader with eight years experience in journalism and digital storytelling
Strong interest and understanding of analytics and how it relates to audiences
Able to manage a team and excellent stakeholder management skills
Effectively collaborated with individuals from diverse backgrounds and foster an inclusive and respectful work environment
