Best-in-class business publication seeks a FT news editor to lead our daily news operation whose adrenaline is unleashed by the chase, for whom beating the competition (and by competition we mean WSJ, NYT, Reuters, Bloomberg) makes you very happy. The right candidate will be a self-disciplined, independent operator as we are a 100% remote operation. We are Meatingplace and Alt-Meat, a pair of news-driven business titles dedicated to the meat (beef, pork, poultry) industry and the alt-meat (cultivated, fermented, plant-based) industries, respectively. We have a dozen Jesse H. Neal Awards for exemplary business journalism for our news coverage, news analysis, events and podcasts. We thrive on original reporting, networking with sources, picking up the whispers then working to confirm the facts. We’re interested in real news, not click-bait. We write about multinational corporations as well as local and regional innovators, lots of Washington action (political, regulatory, legislative, even executive), global trade trends, sustainability, lawsuits, feeding the planet, macroeconomics, microbiology, religion, heroes, anti-heroes and bad apples. We’re never bored. Our next news leader will oversee three daily newsletters. You’ll lead a team of eight journalists who have responsibilities beyond the news, so a deft hand at scheduling to get the best out each individual is key. You’ll also contribute long-form pieces to the magazine; occasional episodes to our award-winning podcast, MeatingPod; cover conferences/meetings (mostly, but not exclusively) stateside and host webinars.
