Total Film is the smarter movie magazine. A cheeky, irreverent, but always passionate and authoritative look at every part of the film world. From all the latest blockbusters, comic-book tent poles and sci-fi extravaganzas to the very best Oscar-baiters, arthouse masterpieces, hidden gems and festival hits, you’ll find it at Total Film.

Total Film is looking for a News Editor, with proven writing, editing and commissioning skills and strong contacts within the industry, to take its news coverage to the next level. Organised, efficient and details-driven, and with an eye for a story and an unwavering passion for all things film, you’ll be excited by the challenge of curating a bustling news section every month, as well as contributing to other areas of the magazine, online and podcast.

What you'll be doing…

As News Editor at Total Film, you'll be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the magazine’s front-section, booking exclusive interviews (and images). The role will include commissioning and editing freelance contributors, and there'll also be opportunities to bring fresh freelance talent on board.

You'll be writing snappy headlines and attention-grabbing sells, selecting the most appropriate pictures, and creating news pieces exciting enough to get mentioned on the cover. The News Editor will also conduct interviews, attend events, and help with the creation of content in other sections of the mag including reviews and features. You'll conduct video/podcast interviews, and create content for our social media channels. The News Editor is also responsible for the weekly email newsletter.

Experience that will put you ahead of the curve…

A passion for, and thorough understanding of, movies and the industry, as well as a deep knowledge of ‘premium TV’.
Being able to write accurate and engaging copy quickly on a daily basis.
Ability to deliver sparkling headlines that instantly capture readers’ attention.
A general understanding of the key social channels, and how to use them to best amplify Total Film’s content. Any video/audio editing experience would be a bonus.
Proven ability to sub and write high quality engaging, relevant content.
Experience managing freelancers and monthly budget management.
A fantastic contacts book and good relationships within the industry.
A confident and adaptable interview manner, whether for print or audio/video.
Knowledge and experience of content management systems.
Able to work under the pressure of deadlines, and flexible to adapt to the challenges that may arise on any given issue.
