The person in this position will serve as the Newsletter Editor and Writer for APG, a national professional association representing 360 physician groups with approximately 170,000 physicians who provide care to nearly 90 million patients. Our members are committed to the transition to value-based care and to providing patient-centered, coordinated, and integrated health care that is responsible and accountable for quality and costs.
As the Newsletter Editor and writer, this person will work with an in-house team of policy experts to craft several short news items each week covering matters involving federal health agencies and Congress that bear on value-based health care. The newsletter is published approximately 49-50 times per year.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as editor and writer for a weekly online newsletter focused on health care policy.
Work with an in-house team of policy experts to craft several short news items each week covering matters involving federal health agencies and Congress that bear on value-based health care.
Design, prepare, and distribute the weekly online newsletter and other communications.
Meet all critical timeframes and deadlines.
Edit and proofread news articles for accuracy, grammar, style, and clarity.
Fact-check information and ensure all sources are properly credited.
Write engaging headlines and subheadings that capture readers' attention.
Stay updated on current events and trends to provide relevant and timely news coverage.
Skills and Abilities:
Exceptional writing, proofreading, editing, and interpersonal communication skills with a clear journalistic style.
Excellent knowledge of AP style guidelines.
Proven organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to efficiently organize and prioritize workload and processes to meet tight deadlines.
Be a skilled editor capable of reworking others’ prose.
Be a reporter/researcher who can locate needed links and other references on the internet.
Be a creative and collaborative self-starter and team player who can develop positive relationships with superiors, peers, vendors, members, and the public.
Be detail-oriented, with excellent grammar and spelling skills.
Possess advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to understand health policy issues.
Skills in using a CRM system and associated communications database technology.
Education and Experience:
A high school diploma or GED is required; a bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree in public policy and/or public health is preferred.
A minimum of five (5) years of prior work experience with a publication or a comparable position is required.
Required previous experience includes the following:
Demonstrated familiarity with health care policy issues is a must.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $48,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year
Expected hours: 16 – 20 per week
