NewsNation is looking for a Desk/Field Producer to join NewsNation’s newsgathering team. The desk/field producer will work directly with correspondents and photojournalists to conduct research, pitch stories, arrange shoots and interviews, gather affiliate elements or as needed write and produce segments, coordinate with show teams, graphics department, and editors. The hybrid role is ideal for someone who is editorially savvy, a skilled broadcast writer, creative storyteller, can ably handle logistics, and is able to collaborate and coordinate across teams. The role alternates between in-house in our Washington, DC newsroom and field producing.
Requirements & Skills:
Be able to conduct accurate, timely, and well-sourced research
Be able to come up with timely, and unique story and guest ideas
Be able to coordinate interviews and shoots for the field team
Be able to gather elements from affiliates, agencies, social media, etc.
Be able to help build out live hits, segments, and packages
Be an effective conduit between the field team, the show team, and the assignment desk clearly communicating needs and expectations
Be proactive about solving problems efficiently and effectively
Field producing on location will be expected
Works with the correspondent on enterprise and future stories as needed
Ability to assist with booking travel
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
At least five years of news production experience
Strong organizational, and people skills are a must
Must be able to manage multiple tasks and work under deadline pressure
Must be able to work varied shifts: nights, overnights or early mornings
Ability to travel for work, often with no prior notice
Must have a valid driver's license as driving will often be required
