Newsweek is looking for an Audience Development Editor to join the London team.

The Audience Development Editor will have extensive experience covering all aspects of U.S. news. They will be a digital native aware of the latest internet trends and conversations.

Using audience data, SEO tools, AI and social media, they will identify trends and topics to be covered by the team. They will assign stories and workshop headlines, ensuring every story is optimised for our audience, from SEO to images. They will assist in forward-planning coverage for events and evergreen features.

They will support and advise teams on developing new areas of coverage, using data to guide editorial decisions.

They will have experience commissioning news stories on US politics and world news, as well as experience in other topics such as Entertainment, Economy, Science and Lifestyle.

The Audience Development Editor will show sound editorial judgment and a comprehensive understanding of media law. They will be responsible for ensuring high-quality coverage that is accurate, fair, and conforms to accepted standards of journalism.

You will have the ability to work from home anywhere in the Republic of Ireland.

Key Responsibilities:

Commission stories.
Use audience data, AI and SEO tools to identify trends and shape news coverage.
Scour multiple social media platforms for stories and emerging topics.
React to breaking news.
Assign and oversee original stories as needed.
Workshop headlines.
Check facts and sources and help ensure content is of the highest possible standard.
Managing direct reports where required.
Perform any other reasonable duties as necessary to meet the needs of the business.

Qualifications:

Several years of relevant assigning and editing experience working at a reputable publication.
Experience managing teams of writers.
Organization and planning skills.
Writing and copy-editing skills.
SEO and online journalism skills.
Familiarity covering U.S. news and lifestyle trends.
Familiarity with using social media, Google Trends and other tools to find stories.
Capable of working to tight deadlines.
