Weekend Assignment Editor

Newsweek is seeking an experienced full-time assignment editor to join and lead our U.S. Weekend Team. The ideal candidate will be comfortable pitching and assigning stories on a wide variety of subjects. We need someone who is comfortable leading and determining coverage on politics, crime, entertainment, health, business, and the environment, among other areas. Assigners on the digital Weekend Team must be able to utilize SEO tools and social media to identify unique angles that stand out in a crowded and competitive field. The lead Weekend Assignment Editor should be able to not only put news events into a larger context, but also anticipate how the news cycle around a given subject will develop. Crucially, the person in this role must be able to provide guidance and constructive feedback to a team of young reporters. Managerial experience is a must.
