NJ Advance Media seeks a versatile Reporter for a full-time position covering high school sports in the most prominent High School Sports department in the country.

The candidate will be responsible for beat coverage of a different sport in each of the three seasons during the school year and should be comfortable owning a beat on their own or working on a highly collaborative team with other reporters. The reporter would be responsible for all aspects of coverage, including ranking the best teams and players in the state, breaking news, identifying trends and generating enterprise on their beats.

The base pay for this position is $50,000 - $60,000 annually.

Our ideal candidate will have the following:

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communications or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
A minimum of three years of journalism experience with a proven ability in beat-reporting and writing required.
Ability to work independently and remotely under deadline pressure and prioritize tasks appropriately.
Solid understanding of news writing, reporting, journalistic ethics and story structure.
Demonstrated capability to deliver clean copy and react quickly as news breaks.
Ability to learn and master multiple applications used to deliver content across a variety of platforms.
Mastery of social media and digital interaction to find stories, build sources and share content.
Ability to leverage relationships with sources to deliver content that differentiates NJ Advance Media from its competitors.
