The Global Health visuals editor, handles the creation of complex visual editorial projects. The editor also has skills as a photographer or videographer. The job requires editorial guidance, planning and more. The current portfolio involves varying levels of oversight for projects for short and long-form. This is a 6-month temporary assignment.
This is a union represented role covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with SAG-AFTRA.
Minimum Qualifications
At least 2 years experience in visual journalism, preferably with a major network/newsroom or production
Demonstrated excellence in digital video storytelling
Ability to work collaboratively with highly creative teams
Strong verbal communication skills
Ability to synthesize large amounts of information into actionable tasks and delegate effectively
Experience maintaining high journalistic standards under deadline pressure
Proven ability to consistently work well with others, demonstrating at all times respect for the diverse constituencies at NPR and within the public radio system
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated skill with video and photo production equipment and software

Evaluate freelance portfolios in photography, illustration, comics, animation and video for potential story assignments

Collaborate with reporters/editors and producers on Global health and science desk
Shoot still and motion photography
Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and Premiere Pro
Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written
Evaluate story pitches from across NPR as well as freelancers
Work with legal team and standard and practices editor
Basic understanding of photo copyrights and permissions
Collaborate with Visuals team to create Instagram stories and/or reels based on GHD stories
Pitch story ideas for weekly GHD planning meetings
Work with Director of Security to evaluate assignments

WORK LOCATION
Hybrid Permitted: This is a hybrid permitted role. Some aspects of this role include duties that are better performed at an NPR facility. The employee will be required to be onsite at the Washington, DC office at least 10 days a year. The employee must also reside in an NPR supported location based on the number of onsite days they choose.
