The New York Post is looking for a Texas based news reporters to help expand our digital coverage nationwide.
The right candidate is an enterprising reporter who can dig up and break eye-popping original stories in Texas -- and deliver them as authoritative reports in the Post's signature voice. We are looking for someone self-sufficient, fast, full of ideas -- and the kind of person who's willing to knock on doors, work the phones, ask tough questions and do whatever else it takes to find and nail the story.
The ideal candidate will have/be:
At least five years of experience in a major breaking news operation
A sharp writer who can deliver clean, coherent copy in the Post's signature style
Experience working as part of a team to brainstorm, collate ideas and thoroughly report them
The ability to spot a potentially viral story or a compelling angle not covered by other publications and the ability to re-work a local story with a national angle
Must have strong news gathering skills and able to work in a digital-first environment
An understanding of how to navigate court documents and complex issues – particularly immigration and border enforcement
A strong rostra of contacts and sources throughout Texas
Bilingual English-Spanish speakers preferred
Ability to travel nationally and internationally and flexibility to work some nights and weekends as required
