OPB is hiring a reporter to cover Portland City Government. This is a high-profile competitive beat covering Oregon’s largest city for an audience that spans Oregon and SW Washington. We’re looking for someone who loves beat reporting – building and maintaining sources, breaking news first and finding the smartest, most enlightening take on a news event everyone is covering – and is eager for the challenge of covering a competitive, complicated beat on multiple platforms. This job requires the creativity and curiosity to maintain a long list of story ideas and the organizational skills to balance daily news with longer-form enterprise and investigative reporting. The Portland City Government Reporter will be joining our Politics team. This position will also work closely with reporters whose beats overlap; some of these include reporters covering climate change, policing, state politics and health and justice. There is ample opportunity to cover a newsy beat for a large and loyal audience. Through your work and with the support of an editor you’ll be able to cover a public service in a way which can invite new audiences and continue our mission to give voice to the community, connect Oregon and its neighbors, and illuminate a wider world.
