The College of Forestry is seeking a Public Affairs Specialist . This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.
The College of Forestry at Oregon State University is the leading forestry program in the United States. As such, we partner with state and federal agencies to provide relevant and sound science that informs important natural resource and land use policy issues.
To support these initiatives, the Public Affairs Specialist develops communication and outreach plans that inform and engage the public about these activities. The incumbent is responsible for:
Developing, fostering, and sustaining relationships with state, regional, and federal government agencies.
Conducting policy analysis and strategic engagement.
Working with researchers and administrative leaders to ensure that college and university priorities and goals are represented in communications and outreach efforts.
Maintaining relationships with internal and external partners to promote and ensure collaboration and partnership opportunities for marketing and communication efforts.
Providing subject matter expertise and representing the College of Forestry publicly.
To effectively represent the college and university, the incumbent must:
Understand complex issues related to research efforts.
Be able to interpret research and policy for others.
Employ best practices in strategic communications across all media types.
Demonstrate expertise in resolving conflicts.
Possess the ability to counsel others on complex and sensitive internal and external initiatives, including policy, budget, or those with stakeholder relationship implications.
Maintain a high level of confidentiality and exercise diplomacy in communicating sensitive subject matter.
