The Orlando Sentinel is seeking a morning breaking news/weather reporter for our digital team. This person reports and writes the first versions of overnight and early morning breaking news stories, including following up on news releases and social media posts from area law enforcement agencies. In addition, this person handles our daily weather coverage including (around hurricane season) daily tropics updates and stories. The person is expected to produce features tied to hurricane forecasting and weather phenomena for Central Florida. As part of our digital team, the candidate will also have a hand in homepage assistance including work with social media and news alerts. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of environment and science journalism, be able to develop weather and climate news sources, be comfortable in a high-paced breaking news atmosphere and be comfortable with new technology. This is a full-time position with paid time off and benefits. Though most Sentinel journalists currently work from home, the person hired for this position would be expected to relocate to Central Florida.
