News and Sports Reporter

Job Description: Owensboro Times is seeking a skilled and passionate reporter to join our team at an innovative digital newspaper. The ideal candidate will have a background in news reporting, plus some experience in sports coverage as well as managing social media platforms and strategies. Experience with photography a plus. This is not a remote position.

Key Responsibilities:

Research and report on local news
Find and highlight community features
Assist with some local sports coverage
Cover a variety of topics including breaking news, local events, politics, business, entertainment, sports, and more
Develop and maintain relationships with community sources
Utilize digital tools and platforms to enhance storytelling, including multimedia elements such as photos, videos, and interactive features
Monitor news developments and engage with readers through social media platforms
Adapt to evolving digital journalism practices and technologies

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field
Proven experience as a reporter or journalist
Strong writing and editing skills
Excellent verbal communication and interviewing skills
Experience with social media platforms and strategies
Strong understanding of AP style
Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed
Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
