Editorial Assistant, SMP

We are looking for a full-time editorial assistant to support two Editors, working across the SMP, Minotaur, and Griffin imprints. The ideal candidate will be able to efficiently manage a diverse set of responsibilities, and has an active interest in a variety of book club and upmarket women’s fiction, thrillers, biography, and narrative non-fiction.

What You'll Do

Maintaining publication schedules and departmental databases, and otherwise tracking the publication process for approximately 25 titles per year
Acting as a professional and responsive liaison throughout the publication process between authors, agents, and other internal departments, including Production, Managing Editorial, Marketing, Contracts, Publicity, and Art
Logging agented submissions, evaluating manuscripts, writing reader reports, and sending rejection letters
Drafting contract and check requests, generating sales reports and editorial P&Ls, updating online metadata fields, and tracking payments and invoices
Writing, proofreading, and collaborating on flap copy, title information sheets, and catalog copy
Basic administrative support, including coordinating meeting schedules, keeping track of upcoming deadlines, processing expenses, shipping packages, making travel arrangements, etc.

What You'll Bring

Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and exceptional time management
A genuine interest in book publishing and knowledge of the current reading audience over a broad range of fiction and nonfiction
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to prioritize, set and meet deadlines, and work independently
Proven ability to adapt to an increasingly digital work environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs

Ideal Experience

Preference for internships in the publishing industry or editorial experience in an academic setting
Candidates with alternative (non-publishing industry-based) office experience are welcome
Bachelor’s Degree or equal experience

This role will have an annual salary of $47,500.
