ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Writing and producing audio-rich news stories;
Producing interviews, emergency information, feature reports and broadcast specials,
Presenting stories on the web site and distributing stories and information and promotion on new and social media vehicles;
Assisting in expanding the use of web site and new media products.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or a related field as well as familiarity with integrating areas of multi-media technology and techniques is required OR the equivalent number of proven years of work experience in journalism, communications or a related field;
Proven announcing skills with an emphasis on news presentation;
A working knowledge of FCC rules and regulations relating to studio operations and journalistic standards;
Ability to master new technologies and understand the basics of web based publishing;
Excellent research, writing, editing, proofreading, and interviewing skills as well as ability to read scripts and conduct news interviews;
Knowledge of the mechanics of Standard English grammar and AP style;
Strong interpersonal skills;
Must be highly organized with an eye for detail;
Knowledge of all facets of online content production, including writing for web, copy editing, graphic design and prefer those with HTML, photography, and audio/video production skills;
A self-starter who can perform duties without direct supervision;
Valid Florida driver’s license;
Extensive creativity with expertise in the operation of all standard field, studio broadcast, computer equipment, and software;
Ability to write, edit, and produce news and public service spots and promotional spots as well as present them on-air, on the station web site, and through social and new media such as Twitter, Facebook and other media tools;
Preference shall be given to the following:
A minimum of one (1) years of proven experience with digital content creation and web publishing in a broadcast or digital news environment;
Proven experience with social media platforms;
Broad interest in and knowledge of issues of concern to the region and current events.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Writing, producing and announcing hourly newscasts and local news stories;
Writing, announcing and producing emergency information, public service announcements, and on-air news promotions as well as other assignments as determined by supervisor;
Producing weekly feature length stories with one concerning public safety every other week, daily brief hard news stories, interviews or actualities, regular on-air newscasts, daily social media updates, and editing of copy and audio;
Completing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
This position will require weekend, early mornings or evenings whether or not there is an emergency.

PHYSICAL SKILLS:

This position requires an ability to sit and stand for long periods of time, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate vehicles, and standard office machines and broadcast recording equipment. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards.
