A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for an Editor to join Penguin Michael Joseph’s non-fiction team, reporting to the Publishing Director.
The Opportunity
In this role you will be responsible for making sure a range of titles are published to the highest standard. In this non-commissioning role, you’ll be project managing our titles post-acquisition. Day-to-day you can expect to be:
Mapping out a realistic schedule both for the book’s production and its publishing life cycle.
Keeping all key stakeholders, across rights, PR, marketing and sales teams, regularly informed and supporting on developing publishing plans with them.
Maintaining and developed relationships with authors and agents.
Gathering sufficient market knowledge and data to comment on audiences, market opportunities and publishing strategies.
Adhoc administration support where required.
Above all, you’ll be an ambassador for our books, championing our books and fulfilling the publishing vision for all aspects of the title’s package.
What you’ll bring
You’ll have solid experience in running the editorial process whether that be from working with fiction or non-fiction books at Assistant Editor level. You’ll also need to be highly organised and able to coordinate multiple stakeholders in order to manage the publishing process for your titles, and to meet strict deadlines. Alongside this, you’ll:
Have experience project managing titles throughout the publishing process
Have an eagle-eye for detail, with excellent copyediting skills.
Have excellent communication skills, able to build rapport quickly and deliver stand out author care.
Have a strong understanding of the audience needs and trends within non-fiction genres and able to craft creative copy and clear design briefs that demonstrate this.
Be a confident partner for Marketing, Publicity, and other internal teams to develop each book’s strategy, positioning, copy and design
