Pensions & Investments, a Crain Communications’ family brand, is seeking an ETF reporter to join our team. The journalist will report and produce editorial content for our P&I ETF Exchange, a news, data and analytics site devoted to tracking and analyzing how and why U.S. institutional investors are incorporating exchange-traded funds into their portfolios, as well as the business strategies of ETF managers.

Such content includes, but is not limited to, breaking news articles, news analysis, news features and enterprise reporting.

The position will give the successful candidates an opportunity to break stories in the hotly competitive institutional investing space and serve our core audience of industry professionals. 

Data-driven stories are critical. Qualified applicants must be able to tell stories that dig deep into trends affecting institutional ETF and index investing in the U.S. Candidates should be willing and adept at using Google Search, Adobe and other web analytic tools to help identify and generate stories that engage readers.

The position is based in New York.

Basic Requirements: 

·      B.A. in journalism or related field required.

·      At least three years’ experience in business, investing or corporate finance reporting.

·      Ability to understand and use corporate financial documents such as 10Ks or proxy statements in your journalism.

·      Proven ability to develop sources and work a beat.

·      Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment; ability to meet deadlines.  

·      Ability to write accurately and clearly on tight deadlines while also engaging readers with compelling copy. 

·      Ability to not only cover the news and generate enterprise features, but also to report and write insightful analysis.

Preferences: 

·       Knowledge of institutional investing and specifically the work of money managers, index or ETF providers and other important firms in the sector.

·       Basic MS Excel ability.

·       Skilled in social media, with track record of using social tools to enhance readership.

·       Scoop-obsessed, with a collaborative mindset. 

This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.

Pay Transparency Disclosure:

The estimated salary range for this position is $60,000 to $80,000.

The final salary offering will take into account a wide range of factors, including experience, accomplishments and location. The salary range provided should not be considered as a salary limit or cap. In addition to base salary, Crain also offers competitive benefits including retirement plan savings contributions and bonus opportunities based on individual and company performance.
