The Executive Editor for Crime, Human Interest and Sports at People will oversee stories and content within each of these verticals in digital and print, and contribute to television programs and development as well as video projects. This leadership position knows audience engagement across platforms and is a creative thinker and problem solver, someone who has new ideas and is able to implement them and inspire a team of journalists and other content creators to do the same.

The EE will supervise editors in crime, human interest and sports and manage the hiring and supervision of a bustling newsroom in office and remotely, working to unite teams towards common goals and exceptional standards expected at People. The position helps come up with new ways to cover news as well as ways to find the emotional, human interest stories within breaking news. Directing the coverage of breaking news as well as planned events is an essential part of this role.

Editing print and digital stories and directing the creation of franchise content and long-form reporting efforts in a collaborative manner, ensuring content is inclusive and reflective of our diverse audience is expected. This position requires excellent Editorial judgment and writing/editing skills along with a good eye for photo and design that complements storytelling. The ability to multitask in an extremely fast-paced environment is important for success.

The EE will participate in the development and at times, on-camera efforts, for television projects connected to crime, human interest and sports and may be asked to participate in national news discussions about People stories.

III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education

B.A. or equivalent experience

Experience

7 years or more managerial experience in a newsroom, news reporting environment
7 years or more digital content creation with knowledge of traffic metrics, audience engagement, leadership, writing, reporting experience as a journalist
Proven management/leadership track record

Pay Range

Salary: $119,000 - $170,000
