The Social Media Editor is responsible for creating daily content to amplify breaking news and feature stories, managing platform publishing, pitching social video ideas and supporting the social media rollout for our digital covers.
The Social Media Editor will be a team player who has excellent writing and communication skills as well as deep understanding of U.S. Hispanics and their preferences in consuming all things entertainment, fashion, and beauty, and follows the latest trends and creative opportunities on social media.
The Social Media Editor will work closely with the rest of the digital team, helping to keep People in Espanol’s (PESP) (including English-vertical People Chica) social platforms engaging and consistently updated. Suggesting social activations across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and more is also a key part of this role. Successful candidates will be able to produce innovative, dynamic social content under tight deadlines.
The Social Media Editor will also be able to create content for the site (articles, galleries) and work closely with writers to develop a strategy to best promote their stories to drive traffic. The also will be able to do the same with sold campaigns, in the promotion of articles and galleries.
This role will have an assigned shift with regular daily hours; however, coverage will sometimes require early morning, evening or weekend work as part of that ongoing assigned shift. The Social Media Editor must also be willing to work occasional off-hours and weekends as necessary.

Education:
Bachelors’ degree in Journalism or related field, or equivalent work experience
Experience:
2-5 years of experience, with at least 1 year in a digital role
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency in written and spoken Spanish for PESP.com, and English for People Chica
Excellent writing and communication skills
Strong knowledge of U.S. Hispanic preferences in entertainment, pop culture, fashion and beauty and the PESP brand
An idea generator who can think of new, fresh social and video ideas
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Experience with SEO, Social Media, Wordpress, Photoshop, light video editing

Pay Range
Salary: $65,000 - $78,000
