The Managing Editor at Pirate Wires is pivotal in steering the editorial direction of our media brands, working closely with the Editor-in-Chief and other editors to produce top-tier journalism, investigation, and opinion. This role demands a perfect balance of leadership skills, editorial acumen, and an instinct for what resonates with our unique audience of VCs, DC insiders, tech founders, and the broader tech-forward community. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader with an unwavering commitment to quality, precision, and the ethos of Pirate Wires.

Key Responsibilities:

Content creation: Consistently produce a demanding volume of deeply researched, fact checked, investigative and journalistic content about the trends, characters, companies, products, and media narratives at the broad intersection of tech, politics, and culture. Assist EIC and senior editorial staff in writing and producing (potentially multiple) newsletters on strict deadlines.

Content Oversight: Manage and oversee the production of contributor content. Ensure all content meets the company's standards for quality, accuracy, and voice. Develop a stable of freelance contributors who you can hit up to get quick-turnaround pieces on current topics published and distributed.

Content Planning & Strategy: Work closely with the Editor-in-Chief and other vertical editors to shape the editorial calendar, planning content that aligns with industry events, trends, and Pirate Wires' objectives

Quality control: Edit all pieces to ensure all content – whether in-house or from contributors – adheres to Pirate Wires' standards and editorial guidelines.

Analytics & Performance: Review content performance, using insights to inform future content decisions and strategies.

Qualifications:

Experience as an editor is preferred, you must show us that your writing and style is a fit for the company
