Political Columnist

Burlington, Vt.-based Seven Days seeks an experienced, savvy journalist to join our award-winning news team as a political columnist. The ideal candidate will mine Vermont’s colorful political landscape to pen insightful weekly columns. This is not an armchair-reporting, in-my-opinion job. Instead, we require reported columns. You’ll use public records, data and sources to uncover stories; provide insight into elected leaders at the local, state and federal levels; follow our three major parties (Democrats, Republicans and Progressives); and shed light on the issues that matter most to Vermonters. You’ll haunt the Statehouse during the legislative session, and cover the jockeying to succeed retiring U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy. Ideally, you’d land an interview with Sen. Bernie Sanders, who hasn’t spoken to us since 2015! You’ll cover elections and campaign finance.
