POLITICO’s mission from the very beginning was to win the audience. We dedicate ourselves to providing accurate, nonpartisan, impactful journalism so that our readers are well informed and can work with confidence and speed. We also commit to training the next generation of journalists as we promote newsroom diversity throughout D.C. area and beyond. The POLITICO Journalism Institute (PJI) is one of the ways we do that. We are excited to once again offer PJI States (May 30th – June 9th) as part of PJI 2023. This training program will admit four undergraduate, graduate students, or recent grads interested in covering politics and policy at the state level. Training includes interactive sessions, panels with industry leaders, mentor pairings with POLITICO journalists and an opportunity for participants to have their work published by POLITICO. Local participants only are encouraged to apply for the first year of this nonresidential expansion of PJI. All costs for attending PJI States, including one trip to Washington, D.C. and local transportation in New York are covered by POLITICO. In an effort to make this opportunity accessible to everyone, we aim to provide a stipend to help offset some of the costs occurred such as housing, transportation, and food once you return to the state office. More information will be provided during the selection process. To be considered, you must complete all five components of the application listed below. Applicants who are rising juniors or seniors at accredited four-year colleges or universities will be given preference. Student members of affinity journalism associations are encouraged to apply. Upon selection, all participants must provide proof of full vaccination for Covid-19.
