Employment and Labor Reporter

POLITICO is seeking a high-energy, enterprising reporter to cover the policies and politics shaping the American workforce. You’ll chronicle the legal and regulatory changes influencing employees and employers. You’ll explore what the Labor Department, Congress, labor unions and businesses are doing to navigate a world of work that is being reshaped by the post-pandemic landscape, technology, an impending retirement crunch the gig economy and more. The role immigration plays in the workforce will also be a key part of the beat.

The ideal candidate will be a scoop-driven reporter who can dominate a daily beat for all platforms of POLITICO while also delivering enterprise stories that break new ground, beat the competition and set the standard for labor reporting in Washington and beyond. With the traditional workplace being redefined and the job market experiencing unprecedented changes, we’re looking for someone who will break news on these complex trends and put them in a larger economic context for both a specialized audience of business leaders and a general readership.

What You’ll Need:

Experience delivering scoops and high-impact enterprise in a fast-paced newsroom environment
Deft writing to explain complicated policy to a wide range of audiences across POLITICO’s multiple platforms
Demonstrated ability to juggle daily coverage with longer-term stories while delivering accuracy and clarity
Experience covering executive branch agencies or Congress
