Practical Law US is looking for a Senior Legal Editor to work on resources for our Law Firm and Law Department subscribers.
About the Role
In this opportunity as Senior Legal Editor, you will:
Develop commercial legal and compliance content that is of national and global significance to be published as part of Practical Law’s online services.
Write and edit legal resources, including standard form documents, practice guidance notes and checklists in accordance with Practical Law writing style.
Assist in the editorial development of Practical Law or Thomson Reuters products.
Establish and maintain relationships with external law firm contributors.
Write and edit content for Practical Law’s companion magazine, Practical Law The Journal.
Develop relationships with lawyers in private practice and in-house counsel and groups to ensure that the Commercial service’s content is topical and meets their needs.
About You
You’re a fit for the role of Senior Legal Editor if your background includes:
A minimum of eight (8) years of experience working as a lawyer in a law firm and as in-house counsel and an understanding of the needs and priorities of law firm attorneys and in-house counsel. A mix of experience is required.
Expertise in a variety of commercial transactional and regulatory matters, including one or more of the following:
general contract principles and boilerplate (standard provisions in all transactional matters);
multi-state consumer regulatory issues; retail and hospitality;
purchase, sale and supply of goods (UCC Article 2), including e-commerce transactions;
franchise;
government contracting;
legal department management and modernization;
supply chain compliance, manufacturing, distribution, logistics, warehousing and reseller transactions; and
consulting, sales representative, and professional services arrangements.
Skill and passion for writing, including:
close attention to detail;
impressive command of grammar, punctuation, and plain English; and
the ability to write about complex legal issues clearly and simply.
The ability to collaborate with and support team members.
Flexibility in working on tasks other than writing legal resources, such as:
supporting the product development and sales and marketing teams in their efforts to build and market Practical Law;
giving presentations virtually, at conferences, and at the offices of potential subscribers; and
responding to subscriber inquiries regarding Practical Law resources
Candidates selected for a second interview will be required to submit a writing sample.
