Practical Law is looking for a Technology Transactions Editor who has a passion for research and writing on legal topics to create attorney-specific resources for our Intellectual Property & Technology Service.

About the Role

In this opportunity as a Senior Specialist Legal Editor, you will:

Develop and maintain technology transactions and counselling legal-know how content to be published on Practical Law’s online services.
Draft, write, and edit a wide-range of original technology transactions resources, including annotated standard form documents, practice guidance notes, and checklists in accordance with Practical Law writing style.
Monitor legal developments and legal practice trends in technology law, with the goal of ensuring coverage is current, accurate, and relevant.
Establish and maintain relationships with external law firm contributors providing technology transactions resources.
Develop relationships with law firm attorneys, in-house counsel, and industry groups to ensure that the technology transactions content is topical and meets their needs.
Support sales team by participating in sales calls and planning and leading product demonstrations, webinars, and in-person continuing legal education seminars for current and potential subscribers.
Serve as liaison with one or more members of Practical Law Intellectual Property & Technology's Advisory Board.
Assist in the editorial development of Practical Law and Thomson Reuters products.

*This role may be located in a home office if candidate is not near a Thomson Reuters facility.*

About You

You're a fit for the role of Senior Specialist Legal Editor if your background includes:

A J.D. and current license to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction.
Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience practicing as an attorney in the US concentrating in technology transactions in a law firm and/or corporate law department.
Extensive expertise in a wide range of technology-related agreements and issues, including:
software and IT services, including SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, and other cloud arrangements, hosting, co-location, and outsourcing.
software and systems technology acquisition, licensing, development, customization, integration, and distribution, including OEM and reseller models;
data licensing and acquisition;
artificial intelligence and machine learning;
open source software;
source code and technology escrow;
hardware leasing and purchase;
IT and intellectual property legal due diligence; and
regulatory issues involving information technology.
Deep knowledge of intellectual property law, contract law, technology-related regulations, and emerging technologies and their legal implications.
Experience working with cross-border technology transactions.
Enthusiasm and ambition, with a desire to improve the efficiency of legal services.
A strong understanding of the needs and priorities of law firm and in-house counsel and the legal market.
Skill and passion for writing and good editing skills, including:
close attention to detail;
impressive command of grammar, punctuation, and plain English;
strong technical drafting skills; and
the ability to write about complex legal issues clearly and simply.
Self-motivated with excellent management and organization skills to effectively track productivity and ensure product development milestones are met.
The ability to continuously collaborate with and support team members in a hybrid and/or remote environment and operate efficiently in a remote environment without on-site technical support.
