Features Reporter
Prairie Mountain Media is seeking an experienced Features Reporter to cover the robust arts and entertainment beat for Northern Colorado.
Situated against the Rocky Mountains to the west and Wyoming to the north, Northern Colorado and Weld and Larimer counties are known for a culture of innovation and entrepreneurial spirit among a set of diverse industries. This position supports the Greeley Tribune, Loveland Reporter-Herald and MyWindsor brands as well as news products in Boulder and Broomfield counties.
The ideal candidate is an ambitious journalist who can find and tell interesting stories and cultivate a strong audience, both online and in the community. You will have strong storytelling skills with a unique journalistic voice who seeks out fresh, enterprising story ideas while covering occasional breaking entertainment news.
What You Will Do
Write at least five stories a week, including an in-depth long-form centerpiece cover story
Conducting interviews with subjects in person and by phone
Cover breaking entertainment news
Have an ear to the ground with local trends and will be comfortable acting as an occasional reviewer or critic for art, film, stage and music events
Occasionally fill in for other reporters and beats
Coordinate art requests with the photo department
Possess basic photography skills to take photos and videos
What You Will Bring
Degree in journalism, or equivalent experience
At least two years experience as a reporter, preferably in features, at a daily newspaper or online news outlet
Strong writing, grammar and story-structure skills and accuracy, fairness and correct spelling in all reporting
Ability to work well under deadline pressure
Unique writing voice that speaks to the audience
Strong journalistic ethical values
An attitude that contributes to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration
Knowledge of Associated Press style a plus
Additional Information
This reporter must be flexible to occasionally work weekends and holidays on a rotational basis
Must live in the area or be willing to relocate (no relocation assistance offered)
The position also requires occasional coverage in nearby counties
The reporter will work remotely, with occasional team meetings in Greeley or Berthoud
