Texas A&M University invites applications for the position of Director of Journalism in a newly revitalized journalism program, in its recently reconfigured Department of Communication & Journalism (effective September 2022; formerly the Department of Communication). This is a full-time, tenured, 9-month academic appointment, starting in fall 2023. The position is at the rank of Professor, with additional duties and compensation provided for directing the journalism program. The new director will play a leading role in efforts to expand journalism education and research at Texas A&M University; helping to train future generations of professional and ethical journalists, able to thrive in modern versions of the newsroom. Candidates should have extensive experience as professional journalists as well as distinguished records in academic journalism and/or administration. The director will teach undergraduate courses in their areas of expertise, while also working in collaboration with the department head and department leadership to develop and implement plans for strategic growth. These plans will target: (1) curricular development, (2) expansion of a cutting-edge immersive internship program, and (3) hiring of faculty to support both its research and teaching missions in the communication and journalism disciplines.
