Temporary Graphics Editor

New Posted 25 July 2023 | New York, NY | ProPublica

ProPublica is seeking a temporary graphics editor to create information graphics for stories with real-world impact. This six month position will run from August 2023 to February 2024.

You will work closely with ProPublica’s award-winning journalists to conceptualize, design and build charts like our comparison of tax rates on sports teams’ owners and players, maps like our analysis of homes built in wildfire-prone areas of Colorado, data visualizations like our comparison of who becomes the subject of child welfare investigations, and other graphics like our timeline of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s relationship with a billionaire.

Your projects will include designing static charts and maps, building interactive features that elevate our daily storytelling, and experimenting with innovative visualization forms.

You will be at the epicenter of one of the most exciting newsrooms in the country, where visual storytelling is integral to the mission.

About You

- Experience with data, such as cleaning or analyzing data with tools such as Excel, Python or R.
- A love for details and making things.
- An ability to work on several projects at once. You’ll need to stay organized and focused.

You will be part of our graphics team and will collaborate with members of other departments including visuals, video, news apps, and design and product, as well as writers and story editors.
