Relay Publishing is looking for writers who are intimately familiar with the psychological thriller genre and the hidden perils of suburban life. You’ll be working alongside the team responsible for the bestselling Jo Crow pen name on a new psychological thriller series. Leave behind the office and get direct experience writing for a popular psychological thriller pen name alongside expert editors and writers.

Our ideal candidate will work with the Relay Publishing outline team to take our 30 to 40 page outline and turn it into a well-thought-out, creative, and suspenseful manuscript. Our typical Psychological thriller is about 90k words in length, and we are focusing on the sub-genre of Domestic Noir. Our writing process requires a collaborative approach with regular contact between our writer and editor.

We want to work with people who are creative, passionate, and conscientious on an ongoing basis. As a virtual office, communication is key—we like to work with individuals who can meet deadlines and communicate clearly and efficiently to keep project coordinators up to date with your progress.

Necessary Skills & Experience

Extensive experience within the genre of Psychological Thrillers, specifically the Domestic Noir sub-genre.
Gillian Flynn, B.A. Paris, Alice Feeney, J.P. Delaney, and Lisa Jewell—you’ve read them all.
Ability to work collaboratively with editors to use the written outline as the basis for your manuscript
High-level writing experience. We are looking for the best of the best, with a drive to see your story come to life.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Technologically savvy

A deep knowledge of the genre is required—viable candidates should already have written and read widely in the Psychological Thriller Domestic Noir genre.
Particularly looking for those with experience working with exciting Domestic Noir storylines that are immersive, character-driven, fast-paced, and surprising, providing the shocking plot twists that this genre is known for.
