The Public Affairs Specialist will be an integral member of the Public Affairs team, responsible for supporting state and local government relations, political advocacy, stakeholder outreach and public affairs efforts for existing Kinder Morgan assets as well as expansion and maintenance projects nationwide.

Essential duties

Supporting comprehensive public affairs outreach programs on expansion and maintenance projects
Corresponding with federal, state and local units of government, NGO’s and stakeholder organizations
Analyzing state legislation and administrative rules and drafting internal briefing documents
Monitoring and analyzing state political developments
Applying research techniques and analytical methods to formulate background reports and memoranda on issues, policies and units of government from rough drafts or general instruction
Serving as a public affairs department representative during regular project calls and meetings
Representing Kinder Morgan at trade and industry organization meetings and calls
Coordinating meeting logistics with third parties and drafting briefing materials
Developing, writing and updating public corporate materials including fact sheets, brochures, PowerPoint presentations and social media posts

Position Requirements

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, and/or other related field

Experience
0-3 years experience preferred in Public Affairs, Government Relations, of the office of an elected official. This is an entry level position and recent college graduates welcome to apply

Competencies, skills, and abilities

Excellent writing skills
Excellent organizational skills with a solid orientation to fine details
Be a self-starter with strong time management skills and ability to effectively multi-task
Familiarity and experience with U.S. politics and structures of government (state and federal)
Experience in reading and analyzing draft legislation and regulation
Knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Office; PowerPoint, Word and Excel

Preferred qualifications
Experience working for a political campaign or elected official desired but not required
