Salary: $85,000 - $95,000
We are looking for a Deputy Editor to join our senior editorial team leading the digital audience and engagement growth on both the Mirror & Express US websites. Reporting to the Editors of both the Mirror & Express US, you will create an environment that encourages new ideas for digital content that will drive audience growth and engagement.
Reach Plc is the UK’s largest commercial news publisher. We’re home to more than 130 trusted brands, from national titles like the Mirror, Express, Daily Record and Daily Star, to local brands like MyLondon, BelfastLive and the Manchester Evening News.
Since the start of 2023, we have been building out our US operation, headquartered at 200 Liberty St, New York. We’ve launched three standalone brands in the Mirror US, Express US and the Irish Star, covering news, sport, entertainment, politics and lifestyle - all targeted at US audiences.

Job Description
Editing the Mirror & Express US websites, ensuring we have the best stories, presented in engaging and original ways for our readers and stepping in to lead the operation when the Editor is away or in meetings
Ensure that enhanced planning processes are thoroughly embedded in the newsroom enabling us to drive audience growth, as well as working with section editors to ensure we have coverage in place for the biggest events and stories
Ensure effective use of social media tools by newsroom staff and act as brand champion of our news brands.
Support executive management in the delivery of our overall strategy, as well as providing support and guidance to other managers to help achieve our business goals

Shift Patterns
This is an office based role working from our New York office, we are therefore open to candidates based in or commutable to New York. Shifts are done on a rolling rota basis, and rotas should be updated approximately 3 months in advance.
There are a range of shift patterns, with early shifts having the potential to start from 7:00am EST and the late shifts can finish anywhere up to 2:00am EST based on requirements. Any shifts ending after 9:00pm EST will have the flexibility to be completed remotely.
A level of flexibility is required in this role, as shifts are open to last minute changes as a result of current news affairs. Weekend shifts will also be required.
Qualifications
Previous experience as a senior manager and leader in a national newsroom environment
Strong knowledge across the news spectrum including entertainment, politics, crime, sports.
Experience of building a news brand coupled with first-class digital publishing skills
In-depth knowledge of headline writing for search and social and experience from having driven audience in that way

Detailed US media law knowledge with the ability to make key decisions under pressure
Confident at managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
Excellent communicator with the ability to empower the team with key knowledge around brand, legal, copy etc. in a concise and articulate fashion
Problem solver with the ability to be fluid with decisions as stories or incidents evolve
Creative, full of ideas, and with an open approach and willingness to try new ways of working
Capable of bringing the best out of people, and inspiring a team to go above and beyond
