The Reno Gazette-Journal/ rgj.com , part of the USA TODAY NETWORK , has an immediate opening for a sports reporter. You’ll write game stories rarely, if ever. This job is focused on coverage readers have shown us they want and will subscribe to read – great storytelling, rankings, fresh analysis and breaking news. You’ll be drawn to enterprise and have an opportunity to pursue watchdog reporting within the beat. This job requires someone who can work nimbly on both dailies and mid-range stories. As part of a two-person sports reporting team, you’ll spend most of the time working side-by-side on high school coverage (the other reporter, a talented and well-sourced veteran, focuses on high school and nontraditional sports). Beyond preps, you’ll be the primary beat writer for the Nevada Wolf Pack – alert for major news events, breakout seasons, stars, controversies and the occasional great feature. The Reno Gazette Journal covers sports across northern Nevada, including 12 high schools in the greater Reno area. It is the leading news organization in Northern Nevada. Reno is no stranger to major breaking news events — and Nevada is a one-of-a-kind state when it comes to stories. We are part of a thriving metropolitan area that includes about 470,000 residents.
