The Green Valley News and Sahuarita Sun serve Southern Arizona, and we need somebody with a track record who's willing to tackle print, online, video, photo and social media. All candidates must have least one solid year of experience in a newsroom, showing a penchant for breaking and enterprise news, and be prepared to continue that reporting and also be the assistant editor — in charge when the editor's gone. Please don't apply if you don't have a solid year as a reporter. When we have a reporter job open, we'd like to talk to you. This is more than that. We cover two communities with twice weekly (Green Valley) and weekly (Sahuarita) newspapers and 24/7 web and social media coverage. We have a M-F newsletter that's funny and interesting and popular (over a 50 percent open rate). We also built our own social media site, NABUR, with a Google grant. We use Blox CMS (Content Management System by Town News) for writing and posting online. Knowledge of this system is a plus but it's easy to pick up. Our editor is also the editorial director for our newspaper chain and travels on occasion; the assistant editor fills in. The job is about 80 percent reporter, 20 percent assistant editor. The last three assistant editors in Green Valley went on to editor roles at their own papers in our company. We've had two assistant editors this year — the first was recruited as an editor at the state's largest paper, the other was on loan to one of our sister papers, fell in love with the area and transferred. We're a training ground.
