In fast-growing Chatham County in central N.C., in the shadow of the Triangle and the Triad, a team of committed journalists and dedicated owners have created a new kind of print and online community news organization by utilizing tools from the Knight/Lenfest Table Stakes and Facebook Accelerator programs and a mission to publish a great newspaper. We have an opening for a team member who can report and write with flair, who can produce clean copy without hand-holding, who understands the nuances of government coverage in a small and diverse (and sometimes divisive) community, and who’s nimble enough to wear all the hats that pros at great small papers wear. We’ve boosted our coverage with a growing collection of e-newsletters, podcasts, events and more, and we’re making an impact: we’ve won more news reporting awards than any other weekly in N.C. over the last three years, and we were name N.C.’s “General Excellence” winner (1st Place, N.C. Press Association News + Editorial Contest) for best overall newspaper in our division for 2022. This position is partially remote: in-office 1-2x/week but remote otherwise.
