DETOUR is looking for ambitious, creative, real-time news reporters to deliver quick-turn stories about compelling news and cultural events that interest and impact Black travelers. This is a remote position based in any US location supporting DETOUR’s newly formed Real- Time Team. Our real-time reporters use social media, Google Trends, CrowdTangle, and other tools to identify, report on and sometimes aggregate stories that are going to drive social and cultural conversations. Responding to big breaking news events is sometimes part of the job, but the primary role is to turn around grow the DETOUR audience by recognizing what’s trending or about to trend in a DETOUR region, across the country, or the world. These reporters work as part of DETOUR’s nationwide Real-Time Team, which includes editors and reporters working remotely in locations across the country. The team communicates via Slack.
