Data Journalist

Reuters is seeking an innovative reporter to join its data journalist team in the USA, on a remote contract. As a Data Journalist, you will produce deeply reported, data-driven stories in collaboration with other reporters and graphics editors, with a primary focus on environmental topics. You'll turn analytical findings into compelling narratives, through a variety of engaging formats.

Reporting to the Deputy Data Journalism Editor, you will collaborate with other reporters and editors in the news organization as well as have experience working on environmental topics, a portfolio of revelatory stories and a history of learning new skills.

About the Role

As a Data Journalist, you will:

Conceive and execute revelatory, impactful data-driven stories, providing an empirical spine and fleshing out data findings with shoe-leather reporting.

Find and acquire data that informs both quick enterprise from the news and deeper reporting that illuminates the issues of the day in fresh and unexpected ways.

Work to develop sources and break enterprising news.

Collaborate with the broader team to create compelling stories.

Combine your interest in and knowledge of data to interrogate sometimes complex datasets, unearthing the trends and stories within.

About You

You're a fit for the role of Data Journalist at Reuters, if you:

Have an eye for creative, data-driven storytelling, including interactive presentations.

Possess a working-level knowledge of SQL and at least one other programming language.

Have demonstrable experience in developing sources and breaking enterprising news on a beat.

US FOIA law expertise

Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
