Reuters is seeking a journalist with strong research and writing skills and fluency in Ukrainian and Russian to join its global fact-checking team. As a Fact-Checking Producer, you’ll identify viral content relating to misinformation topics and write comprehensive articles to establish the facts behind them. You will have a passion for politics and current affairs, expertise in navigating social networks and a track record of spotting emerging trends and stories. Most importantly, you’ll need to have sharp instincts and a creative, determined approach to problem-solving.
About the Role
As a Fact-Checking Producer at Reuters, you will:
Identify potential misinformation concerning Ukraine, Russia and other topical issues
Conduct research to establish the facts behind the claims
Be deeply familiar with social media as a newsgathering tool and how misinformation travels online
Proactively pitch fact-check articles addressing misinformation
Communicate fact-check findings in a manner that is clear, concise, and free from bias
Uphold Reuters standards and the Trust Principles
Work as part of our friendly, collaborative and global fact-checking team
Assist with other breaking news coverage in Ukraine as directed by the local hub
About You
To be a Fact Checking Producer, you will:
Demonstrate an analytical approach to new stories and be comfortable researching a range of topics independently
Have demonstrable experience in reporting or news writing (3+ years of experience). Prior experience as a fact checker is by no means a prerequisite.
Be able to identify emerging trends and misinformation
Be fluent in Ukrainian and Russian
Demonstrate an ability to write crisp and clean copy in English
Show a proven interest in current affairs and misinformation
Show strong news judgement
Be a collaborative team player, comfortable working occasional weekend shifts when required.
Be deeply familiar with social media as a newsgathering tool and track trends as to how misinformation travels online.
Prior experience in reporting, social media newsgathering, OSINT or fact-checking would be a clear advantage.
