Reuters is seeking an energetic, self-starting and resourceful Senior Correspondent based in Jerusalem to break news, dig for exclusives and deliver deeply researched stories that will help set the agenda in Israel and the Palestinian Territories.
The successful candidate will be bursting with ideas and have a passion for getting out and about to deliver high-impact stories that will attract attention in a highly competitive environment. This will require a readiness and willingness to report on everything from Jewish settlers in the West Bank and militant activity in Palestinian cities to social divisions in Israeli society and crippled communities in devastated Gaza.
The successful candidate will also be keen to follow the money when it matters, whether that relates to Israeli tech investments and their growing clout in the world of intelligence and beyond or chasing down the West Bank businesses if reconstruction moves up the agenda. The successful candidate will also be ready to work closely with colleagues in other regional centres and beyond, sharing their own tips or delivering the reporting that will help others get stories and scoops over the line. This position will require a reporter with resilience, persistence and creativity when the going gets tough and when routes to publishing a story seem blocked.
The post will also require the ability to nurture and build sources in a region where secrecy is part of official DNA on both sides. As with any Reuters position, working closely with visuals is paramount. The post will require a readiness to work with a cool head in hostile environments (after attending appropriate training), while always operating in line with Reuters security guidance.
This is a position that offers huge potential for the right journalist with stamina and determination, and a readiness to cover one of the world’s biggest and most emotive stories with patience and balance.
