Reuters is looking for breaking news correspondents to cover Ukraine, delivering fast and excellent coverage of one of the world’s most important stories.

This is a role requiring reporters who can spot the most important news inside Ukraine whether it be the latest developments on the frontline of its war with Russia or a sudden change in monetary policy.

It will be a fast-paced position filing news alerts on breaking news, writing swift updates and, sometimes, crafting quick sidebars.

The correspondents will form a virtual part of our Kyiv bureau - reporting into our Ukraine Chief Correspondent and working closely with the team there – but working from our large editorial centre in Gdansk, Poland.

About the Role

As Ukraine Breaking News Correspondent you will:

Work in a small team watching multiple news sources spanning Telegram channels and government news releases to Ukrainian TV stations and newspapers as well as speaking to Reuters’ reporters in the field

Write news alerts, stories and quick sidebar stories on major events in Ukraine and, occasionally, Moldova

Build relationships with key government departments, the military and companies to ensure Reuters gets the news first

Be part of Reuters’ large editorial centre in Gdansk, which will give you exposure to the company’s broader global operations and opportunities for secondments elsewhere

About You

To be Ukraine Breaking News Correspondent you will have:

Fluent English and Ukrainian language skills

At least two years’ experience covering news in Ukraine or elsewhere in Eastern Europe

A deep understanding of the Ukraine war, as well as Ukrainian politics and economics

Ability to work calmly under pressure and maintain strict discipline on adhering to Reuters editorial standards

Excellent news writing skills

Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team

NB: To be considered for this opportunity please ensure that you submit BOTH a CV and Cover Letter. Your Cover Letter should be addressed to “Whom It May Concern” and should detail your motivations for applying to the role.
