The Multimedia Journalist uses advanced shooting, editing, and writing skills to produce compelling content for digital and broadcast platforms. The MMJ specializes in documentary/news-style videography techniques, as well as writing and copy editing. The MMJ researches and develops original story ideas, develops sources, and investigates, gathering information, images, and audio for news reports and program segments to enrich public conversation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Shoots and edits short-form video assets for digital platforms and contributes to long-form programming while following PBS, NPR, and FCC technical standards.
Develops written content in AP Style for website.
Strives to meet the mission of the organization, collaborating as necessary with internal and external partners.
Proficient in camera, lighting, and audio gear.
Facilitates story pitch sessions both internally and externally.
Finds and schedules statewide interviews for original programming, including Colorado Voices and Colorado Experience as needed.
Vets all resources with journalistic integrity. Meets or exceeds expectations on quality control and editorial integrity of assigned productions and projects.
Supervises editing, delivery, and distribution of segments, shows or other content.
Ensures that content rights and releases are acquired as necessary for assigned programs.
Other tasks as assigned and/or required.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR ALL JOURNALISM TEAM MEMBERS
Attends weekly content meetings providing useful input and story ideas.
Responsible for daily production of responsive content and special project work when required (one or more story assets per week).
Shoots, edits, and/or writes content for multiple platforms of RMPM to help further the mission of creating a Colorado where everyone feels seen and heard.
Engages with communities in Colorado to create an open door for content. Meets with community leaders to listen to and hear story ideas. Represents RMPM at community events.
Actively participates in RMPM's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) training program. Uses key standards and teachings of DEI training when producing daily responsive content.
Must possess a valid driver's license and an acceptable MVR; must be insurable for driving station vehicles.
Fluency in Spanish (verbal and written) is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications of Position
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with strong evidence of achievement is preferred.
Must possess exceptional storytelling, videography, and editing skills.
Possesses proven skills and abilities as an innovative and effective storyteller.
Works responsibly within an established budget.
Exhibits extensive experience with troubleshooting and addressing equipment failures. Possesses the ability to perform light maintenance and repairs on field equipment, including both audio and video.
A mix of demonstrated skills, abilities and knowledge may be considered in place of educational requirements.
Work Environment
This position works primarily in office, studio, editing, and field environments with work-from-home flexibility. This position must be able to work a flexible schedule with occasionally long hours including some evenings and weekends. Must be able to travel throughout the state and beyond, on occasion.
