We have an exciting new position for a Digital News Editor who will oversee the delivery of our regular weekly supporter email and news-led website content.
Reporting to the Digital Delivery Manager, the successful candidate will be a great storyteller, an expert in email marketing and have excellent experience with CMS platforms, ensuring our timely communications inform, entertain, and educate our supporters and new audiences. With an eye for detail and a passion for insight, you will learn what resonates and how to tactically drive good outcomes for nature.
The ‘creative & digital content team’ is a strategic and delivery partner to the organisation within the digital technology and communications directorate. Your teammates will be experts in copywriting, video production, graphic design, social media, website and email production, and as a team player, you will work collaboratively to deliver outstanding digital content.
The way many of us live our lives is disrupting the delicate balance created by nature over millions of years. Deforestation, overfishing, intensive farming methods, increased pollution and our burning of fossil fuels are just some of the ways we are destroying biodiversity both here in the UK and around the globe. While some species can adapt, others are really struggling and on the verge of extinction. In this role, it is essential that you are a passionate advocate for nature and understand why we urgently need to come together to save it.
Responsibilities
Strategic direction: optimise trending news themes to peak audience engagement and support our objectives.
Creative collaboration: being an expert in email marketing, you will embed a long-term digital strategy and work with product owners, channels leads and copywriters to do so.
Audience led insight: Curiously analyse how our users interact with our news content, identifying opportunities to test and optimise based on insight.
Performance tracking. Audit our content performance and create channel benchmarks for news content with which to measure our success.
Manage workflow. Provide visibility of daily delivery plans. Work with planning and resourcing partners, ensuring we are supporting prioritised delivery of our planned and reactive communications.
Essentials
Technical Knowledge:?You understand what makes great digital content and will have previous experience working with Headless CMS and email marketing platforms.
Communication:?A lot of this job is about making conservation and nature news relevant to people’s lives, and you will be a smart and tactical communicator in how you lead this.
Copy editing: Guided by our brand, you will be able to edit our news content to bring a succinct style and pace which balances humour, humility, expertise, and urgency.
Relationship-building:?To get things done at the RSPB, you need to be able to work with other people and teams. You will have excellent people skills and know how to influence and inspire others to your way of thinking.
