Responsibilities and Impact

We are looking for a journalist who can develop reliable sources, with the aim of producing forward-looking breaking news stories. You should also be able to mine market data to produce data-driven stories. Commodities Insights news showcases the company’s commodity price benchmarks and analytics to deliver market-relevant insight that is unavailable anywhere else. People read Commodities Insights news because it helps them make profit-critical decisions.

You will report on oil markets and the industry in the Americas, with emphasis on North American oil midstream, including pipelines, terminals, and shipping.

Content you create (stories, graphs, infographics, podcasts, webcasts, webinars, etc.) will be focused on the policy and regulatory impacts on supply/demand and prices, with the support of fellow news reporters, data, and analysis from Platts Analytics and Platts oil price benchmarks.

Your major area of focus will be US oil midstream.

You will be expected to think ahead, covering potential developments in US crude and refined products pipeline and waterborne transportation.

Compensation/Benefits Information

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $80,000 to $100,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan. This role is not eligible for additional compensation such as an annual incentive bonus or sales commission plan.

What We’re Looking For:

We seek a candidate who can produce clear, accurate copy under tight deadlines, with a commitment to the highest journalistic standards. A keen interest in the energy industry, particularly energy commodities, will fuel your success as a resourceful self-starter. An understanding of the ongoing US energy transition will be advantageous.

Success in this role requires a passion for reporting, an ability to grasp complex subjects, and effective communication across multiple formats. You’ll need to clearly and concisely explain market, industry, and governmental developments to a busy audience. Collaboration with an experienced team of colleagues is essential.

Basic Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Economics, or Business.

Over 3 years of reporting and writing experience, preferably in energy markets or broader business and financial journalism.

Flexibility to cover developments across various regions in the Americas.

Concise writing style and strong numerical skills.

Research and analytical capabilities to interpret and leverage diverse information sources, including market data and legal documents.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency in data visualization, as a growing portion of our content is graphically presented.
