Managing Editor, Fertilizer

The Team: The Fertilizer price reporting team is the world’s leading provider of market information on a diverse range of markets linked by their use in agriculture. The fast-growing team - currently 20 people globally – is dedicated to providing market-leading insights into all major fertilizer markets. This new managing editor role will manage the Americas part of that team, reporting into the global director for fertilizer pricing.

The Impact: The global fertilizer team, spanning seven locations in four continents, publishes more than 300 price assessments, many of which are used as physical benchmarks by the market. This is a chance for the successful candidate to contribute both to maintaining existing physical benchmarks, and to helping to drive new areas of coverage in subsectors such as ammonia, sulphur, and sustainable fertilizers. The role will be responsible for ensuring full alignment with the company’s best practices in price reporting, while innovating to find new and more effective ways of working.

Responsibilities:

Embedding best practices from the Platts business within the Americas fertilizer team
Supervising the team’s schedule, ensuring coverage is available, and arranging a pipeline of back-up coverage via training
Managing the travel and expenses budget for the team to ensure maximum value for the business
Checking price assessments and coverage notes to ensure that they represent the best-in-class approaches developed by Platts at all times
Transposing the global Fertilizer team’s strategy into meaningful goals for the frontline price reporting team; feeding back actionable information to inform the overall team’s strategy
Ensuring a supportive and effective working environment, that allows this busy and hard-working team to perform at its best

What We’re Looking For:

Essential Skills Required

Detailed knowledge of how Platts assesses and covers European commodities markets. This is to ensure that Platts processes are applied consistently and accurately.
Strong leadership ability which utilizes influence, and promotes team collaboration and development, as well as personal accountability.
Accuracy under time pressure. It is critical that we deliver accurate assessments to the market consistently.
Proven public speaking abilities. This position will be an internal and external ambassador of what we do and must be an accomplished and confidant speaker.
A detailed knowledge of the Fertilizer market will be required to be able to direct coverage.
