The Team: S&P Global Commodity Insights is seeking an enterprising reporter to cover the North American power and electric utility sector.

The successful candidate will balance beat reporting and enterprise features to capture how power and utility companies are responding to the demands for a low-carbon energy system. As a reporter on this team, you’ll dive deep into the capital spending plans, mergers and acquisitions, renewable energy projects, transmission, batteries, electric vehicle charging infrastructure and other power plant investments reshaping the grid, with an eye toward the financial incentives shaping this transition. Your reporting will also require an understanding of public policy and politics as they affect the sector.

Write clear, concise and engaging stories that inform and engage our influential readership of financial and energy industry professionals in the global business community.

Use data, analysis and visual elements to support your reporting and give your stories greater impact.

Expand our energy news coverage and build readership throughout the industry.

Help drive our coverage of the electric utility sector, identifying emerging trends and financial developments within regulated and competitive markets.

Cover hearings, speeches and conferences.

Interview executives, policymakers and other key stakeholders.

What we’re looking for:

Basic qualifications:

Professional journalism experience
Strong writing and reporting skills, coupled with excellent news judgment
Demonstrated ability to develop and execute story ideas

Preferred qualifications:

Knowledge of and interest in the power and electric utility sector
Business reporting experience
Experience reporting with data and developing visual graphics
Prior participation on podcasts or other media

Grade/Level (relevant for internal applicants only): 8
